“ORGANIC GARDENING” Workshop
Series - Join the “locavore” movement
and get your fill of vegetables in 2012 by starting an organic kitchen
garden in your own backyard. PWP and Gardenerd have teamed up to
offer a new Organic Gardening Series, set for Saturdays, March 3, 10, 17
and 24 from 9 to 11 a.m. at The Salvation Army Tabernacle,
960 E. Walnut St. Local expert Christy Wilhemi
will entertain and inform, giving the best advice on soil and
fertilizers, small space and container gardening, heirloom vegetables,
seed starting and transplanting, garden tools and care and pruning.
“RAIN GARDEN”
Hands-On Workshop –A TRULY HANDS ON EXPERIENCE (BRING GARDEN GLOVES!) Volunteers from across
the community will get together to create a "pocket park" in a Pasadena
neighborhood. The park will incorporate principles of rain gardening to
help restore local groundwater. An instructor will guide you through all
the principles and techniques, and then the class will be let loose to
dig and plant. While getting your hands dirty (wear gloves!), you'll be
learning how to grow a beautiful, lush
oasis in your own yard. A rain garden can help you cut
your water bills and take your landscape to the next level by channeling
rainwater to a unique collection of plants that thrive in moist
conditions. DATE CHANGE: Now set for
Saturday, March 24. If you are interested, please send
email to jhao@cityofpasadena.net
