CURB
MARKINGS
Some parking restrictions are designated by the
painting of the curb. Below
are the different types of curbs you may encounter, the meaning of the
color and the parking
limitations for each.
Red
Curb
Red means no stopping,
standing or parking at any time except as permitted by the California
Vehicle Code. (Buses may
stop in a red zone marked or signed as a bus zone.)
Persons
who believe a red curb will enhance visibility at an intersection or
busy
driveway should follow the procedures outlined under
How
to Request New Parking
or Loading Restrictions.
Yellow Curb
Yellow curb designates a 20-minute loading zone for
commercial vehicles to load and unload goods.
The hours that the loading zones are effective in Pasadena
are Monday through Saturday from
6 AM
to
6 PM, unless posted otherwise. (Passenger
loading
and unloading from any vehicle is permitted in Pasadena
loading zones provided the passenger loading activity will take no more
than 3 minutes.)
Green Curb
The green curb represents 15 minute parking.
Unless otherwise posted, green curbs
are effective from
6 AM
to 6 PM, Monday through Saturday. If
you are interested in obtaining a new green zone in your block, follow
the instructions below for obtaining
a new restriction.
White Curb
White
means no stopping, standing or parking for any purpose, other than
loading or unloading of passengers which does not exceed 3 minutes. Such
restrictions are
effective from 6 AM to
6 PM,
Monday through Saturday,
except as follows:
a. When such
zone is in front of a hotel, the restrictions shall apply at all
times;
b.
When such
zone is in front of an auditorium or theater, the restrictions shall
apply at all times that the auditorium or theater is open;
c.
When such
zone is in front of a curb drop mailbox adjacent to a public
sidewalk, the restrictions shall apply at all times. The length of
time a vehicle
may stand or park in an appropriately marked white
"mail drop zone" shall
be
limited to the time a person is
actually involved in the act of depositing
mail in
the adjacent
mailbox;
d.
When such
zone is posted or marked (by temporary or permanent signs
or
markings) for valet parking, the restrictions shall apply during all
hours
posted on the sign except when all the businesses directly behind the posted
zone
are closed.
Blue Curb
Blue means
no stopping, standing or parking at any time except vehicles which
display a distinguishing license plate or valid placard issued to
handicapped and
disabled persons and disabled veterans pursuant to the
California Vehicle Code.
MAINTENANCE OF EXISTING CURB MARKINGS & SIGNS
Although the City routinely repaints existing curbs
and replaces signs on an as-needed basis, please feel free to let us
know if a curb or sign needs refurbishing by sending a written request to the
Traffic Engineering Section or send an email to
Richard Yee.
