The f
ollowing is a brief summary of various markings and signs you may encounter while driving about town.

No Stopping Anytime or No Parking Anytime

Some streets have been posted with No Stopping Anytime or No Parking Anytime signs.  In these areas, it has been determined that the stopping or parking of vehicles
in these areas will cause a problem with traffic flow or pedestrian, bicyclist or vehicular safety if a vehicle blocks the lane.

Note:   The Traffic Engineering Staff investigates requests from property owners, residents and business owners to determine whether new restrictions are required.

No Stopping or No Parking During Certain Hours on School Days

Certain streets in close proximity of school-age children have also been posted with
No Parking for certain hours during the day (typically, 8 AM to 3 PM) so that children can safely travel to and from school.  The parking of vehicles during these time periods may jeopardize the safety of pedestrians and bicyclists.

Note:   Requests for new no parking signs are generally received from the Pasadena Unified School District.  If you would like to modify or add changes, please contact the principal of the school to determine the best way to advise the school district of your concern.

No Parking 7 AM to 9 AM ; No Parking 4 PM to 6 PM ; No Parking 3 PM to 7 PM

Some streets within the City of Pasadena are more heavily traveled during the morning and/ or afternoon peak hours.  On most streets you will find that one direction is posted with no parking during the AM peak hours (7 – 9 AM) and the opposite direction is posted with afternoon peak hour (4 - 6 PM) parking restrictions .  The reason is that traffic research on the streets has shown that more travel lanes may be needed during certain time periods.  Only a few streets have been posted with both the AM and PM peak hour restrictions.

Limited Time Parking Signs

The notification of parking time limits on streets within the City of Pasadena varies by color of curb or sign posted.  Additionally, the effective time of the time limit or curb designation varies by the color of the curb, location of the curb or the hours posted on
a sign.  When posted with signs, the driver needs to read posted signs to determine the actual days and hours that the limits are effective.

Reasons for time restrictions depend on location of businesses and schools, locations
of off-street parking spaces within proximity of the street, special needs of the
properties in the area, unusual concentrations of population or other factors where unlimited time restrictions will create a hazardous traffic condition for pedestrians, bicyclists, or other drivers.

You should be aware that the Pasadena Municipal Code states that a
vehicle can only park once within the same block where a parking restriction
is in effect.  (You cannot simply move from one space to another or from
one side of the street to the other in order to park beyond the posted
time limit.)
