626-744-PLAN

DECEMBER 2004

As part of the Neighborhood Traffic Management Program (NTMP), the Department of Transportation is rolling out a new community-based pilot program to assist residents in monitoring and reporting speeding problems in their neighborhoods. Residents may submit a request to check out the radar gun to collect traffic speeds and identify the severity as well as the frequency of speeding problems. Initially a speed radar gun may be checked out for up to one week at a time. If the program is well received, the length of check-out and number of units may be adjusted accordingly.

Upon request to participate in this speed monitoring pilot program, Transportation staff will provide hands-on instruction and a booklet to guide them when using the speed radar gun. Individual residents and representatives from homeowner groups may contact the Transportation Planning & Development Division (744-PLAN) to obtain additional information.
