Pasadena Bioscience Collaborative
|
The Pasadena
Bioscience Collaborative (PBC) is a
non-profit organization created to support the local
biotechnology industry. Utilizing the PBC incubator
facilities on Foothill Boulevard, entrepreneurs can
develop proof-of-principle for their particular
applications. Any Intellectual Property developed is
solely owned by the companies. The wet labs offer
wireless access along with shared use of standard
laboratory equipment and small laboratory
appliances. Resources for incubator tenants include
professionals who offer scientific, technical, legal
and financial advice. Trained interns are available
from the Biological Technology Program at Pasadena
City College as well as from California State
University, Los Angeles and California State
Polytechnic University, Pomona. Proximity to Oak
Crest Institute of Science allows collaboration with
scientists and research projects in environmental
sciences. The scientists of Oak Crest have visiting
faculty status at Caltech.

Filming
Pasadena’s
historic beauty hits the big screen…
"The Changeling" & "Yes Man"

 |
City Hall hosted its first
major feature film since the renovation in November 2007.
The Changeling stars Angelina Jolie and is directed by Clint
Eastwood. Mr. Eastwood directed scenes with Ms. Jolie in the
City Hall courtyard and rotunda. The movie is set in the
1920’s, so Angelina Jolie and a huge cast of extras were
milling about City Hall in period dress. The Internet Movie
Database (www.imdb.com) offers the following story summary:
“A mother's prayer for her kidnapped son to return home is
answered, though it doesn't take long for her to suspect the
boy who comes back is not hers.” This is based on a true
story and will have a 2008 release. A specific release date
hasn’t been finalized. |

Warner Brothers filmed its latest Jim Carrey
feature, Yes Man, on the Colorado Street Bridge in January
2008. The scene involved a bungee jump scene (featuring Jim
Carrey) from the bridge. This is based on the humorous and
inspiring memoir by Danny Wallace, who was dumped by his
girlfriend and spent his days, like so many of us in this
Internet age, avoiding people. Texting them instead of
calling them. Calling them instead of meeting them. Until
one fateful day when a mystery man on a late-night bus told
him to 'Say Yes more,' Danny made a vow to say Yes to every
favor, request, suggestion and invitation and his life
suddenly became interesting… |
