COMMUNITY PLANNING

Colorado Bridge and Arroyo Seco at SunsetWhat We Do

Our goal is to ensure that the City’s General Plan is a vision for achieving a greater city for years to come.  This vision is embodied in the Seven Guiding Principles of the General Plan, which is made up of specific elements.

Community Planning gathers research, updates the zoning map, and facilitates the development and implementation of the Comprehensive General Plan, which serves as the legal guide to all development in the community.  Community Planning gives advice to the City Council, City Manager, the Planning Commission, and other City commissions on issues involving future development in the City of Pasadena.

Community Planning provides administrative assistance to the Planning Commission which is the primary advisory body to the City Council for preparing and reviewing the General Plan.  The Planning Commission also adopts and implements programs under the General Plan, including specific plans, the zoning map, regulations and review of the capital zoning improvements program.
