General Event Information
The Pasadena Marathon presented by Kaiser
Permanente is scheduled to take place on Sunday, March 22nd. The
event will feature a full & half marathon, bike tour, and 5k community
run/walk. Organized by Pasadena Forward in partnership with International
City Racing, the event will serve as a fundraiser for four local charities
in the areas of arts, culture, education and health. Official beneficiaries
of the 2009 Kaiser Permanente Pasadena Marathon are the Pasadena Arts
Council, Pasadena Education Foundation, Pasadena Heritage and Young &
Healthy. For detailed information about course maps, registration, etc.,

The event will start and end at Pasadena
City College with a day-long Finish Festival at that site. An estimated
8,000 people are expected to participate with an additional 5,000 – 8,000
spectators along the course. The route will take participants past our
City’s renowned cultural landmarks and through many of our scenic
neighborhoods and vibrant commercial districts. Parking for the event is
free and will be located at the Pasadena City College Campus and nearby Cal
Tech.

Streets
Closures on Race Day
Beginning at 5:00 am on race day, Pasadena
Police will assume control of the streets with restricted vehicular access
only through designated intermittent traffic control points and those
streets not affected by the route. Streets will
re-open according to a 17 minute per mile time clock. Please reference
the "Street Closure by Course Sector Map" to see when streets will re-open
in your neighborhood. Residents and visitors to the City should
be advised to expect delays when traveling within the City.
The Pasadena Police Department reminds residents to
remain patient when driving in the City.

Parking
Information for Residents & Businesses
In preparation for the event, the route will be posted with no parking
restrictions. In addition, the issuance of overnight parking citations (2 am
– 6 am) will be suspended the morning of November 16th. During this time,
overnight parking permits will NOT be required to park on City streets.
Residents should park outside of the immediate race route to have access to
their vehicles during the day. If your car is parked anywhere along the
route after 1:00 am, it will be towed by Pasadena Police. However, all other
parking restrictions and prohibitions apply including the temporary tow away
zones associated with the marathon route.
Suspension of Overnight Parking Citations
Due to the numerous street closures along the Marathon route, the issuance
of overnight parking citations (2 a.m. to 6 a.m.) will be suspended on the
morning of March 22, 2009, Sunday morning, 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. During this
time, overnight parking permits will NOT be required to park on City
streets.
Residents should park outside of the immediate race route to have access to
their vehicles during the day. If your car is parked anywhere along the
route after 1:00 am, it will be towed by Pasadena Police.
However, all other parking restrictions and prohibitions apply including the
temporary tow away zones associated with the Marathon route.
Towing of Vehicles Along the
Route
The marathon route will be posted with no parking signs. Please observe
all onstreet parking restrictions closely, noting all time restrictions.
Vehicles that are parked along the course during the restricted times will
be towed to 1365 E. Colorado Blvd. and will be available for pick up
for free until noon on the day of the marathon. After that, the
vehicles will be moved to a City storage lot, and storage charges will
apply.
If you are unsure whether or not your
vehicle has been towed, please call 744-4241 to confirm if your vehicle
is being stored at the impound lot. After 4:00 am on race day,

Transit Bus Route Detours:
Several transit routes will be re-routes on race day. Please click

Buses & First Transit will operate from 11:00 am - 5:00 pm on race day.

Church Detour Information
We
understand that your normal routes to and from your places of worship may be
impacted by street closures. Pasadena Forward has outreached to each of the
churches along the route to provide recommended detour and travel routes.
Please log-on to
www.pasadenamarathon.org and click on the “Pasadena Residents” link to
access this information. Please plan your schedule accordingly as there
will be delays when traveling thru the City on race day.
Freeway
Off-ramp Closures
The Seco/Mountain off-ramp on the 210
freeway will be closed from 5:30 am – 11:30 am on Sunday, March 22nd.
All other freeway ramps will remain open. Please plan your travel
accordingly.
Rose
Bowl/Arroyo Access
Additionally, the Rose Bowl loop will have
limited access for general recreational users. Anyone wishing to jog, bike
or walk around the Bowl should take Arroyo Drive from Holly Street, proceed
northbound on Arroyo Blvd., and turn right into Lot I in front of Brookside
Park. Anyone wishing to visit the Brookside Golf Course & Clubhouse should
exit Arroyo/Windsor from the 210 fwy, proceed southbound on Arroyo Blvd.,
and turn right at Rose Bowl Drive.
DIRECTIONS FOR STAKEHOLDER
ACCESS:

BROOKSIDE GOLF
COURSE/ROSE BOWL:
Roads in and around the Arroyo will be closed
from approximately 5:30 am – 10:20 am. For employees and patrons
requiring access during this time the recommended detour route is Arroyo
Blvd. to Rose Bowl Drive where Pasadena Police will allow ITC across
Rosemont for golfers requiring access to the Clubhouse Lot. The
recommended freeway off-ramp is Arroyo Blvd/Windsor.

KIDSPACE/AQUATIC
CENTER:
Roads in and around the Arroyo will be closed from approximately 5:30 am
– 10:20 am. For employees and patrons requiring access during this time
the recommended detour route is to take Holly Street, south on Arroyo
Drive, north on Arroyo Blvd. and turn right into Lot I. The
recommended off-ramps are San Rafael/Linda Vista or Orange Grove from
the 210 fwy. Holly Street is accessible from either off-ramp.

PLAYHOUSE DISTRICT:
There
will not be any streets closures within your district. Union and Green
between Los Robles and Green will be open for thru traffic. The
recommended freeway off-ramp is the Lake Avenue exit.

OLD PASADENA MANAGEMENT
DISTRICT:
Colorado between
Marengo between & St. John and Green between Orange Grove and Pasadena
Avenue will be closed from approximately 5:30 am – 8:30 am. For
merchants requiring access north of Colorado during this time please use
the Fair Oaks off-ramp from the 210 fwy. For merchants requiring access
south of Colorado during this time please use the Del Mar off-ramp from
the 710 fwy.

SOUTH LAKE BUSINESS
DISTRICT:
California between Hill & Hudson and Del Mar between Sierra Bonita &
Wilson will be closed from approximately 5:30 am – 8:00 am. During this
time, access within the district will be on north/south streets such as
Lake, Mentor, & Hudson. The recommended freeway off-ramp is the Lake
Avenue exit.

PASEO COLORADO:
Colorado between Marengo and Pasadena Avenue will be closed from
approximately 5:30 am – 8:30 am. During this time, the Paseo Colorado
parking structure will be accessible to motor vehicles traveling
westbound on Colorado Blvd. at the Euclid entrance.

CAL TECH:
Due to closures on Hill, Wilson, Del Mar & California between 5:30 am –
8:00 am, anyone requiring access to the Cal Tech campus should use the
following detour routes: if traveling eastbound on the 210 fwy use the
Altadena/Sierra Madre off-ramp and if traveling westbound on the 210 fwy
use the Allen off-ramp.
