Composition 15 members. The Mayor shall nominate 9 members from persons recommended by the other 7 Councilmembers and the Tournament of Roses (TOR). Such nominations shall include the City Manager and his/her authorized representative, and a member of the City Council. The Mayor may nominate 1 person with an economic interest in commercial real property situated within the proposed midtown/civic auditorium sub-district. The major hotels in the City may nominate 1 representative per hotel for a total of at least 4 members. A major hotel is defined herein as a property of over 200 rooms. All nominations are subject to ratification by the City Council. Pasadena residency is not required for TOR position.
Term of Office 3 years. Limited to two consecutive terms, except for the City Council and the City Manager or his or her designee.
Purpose and Function The Pasadena Center Operating Company (PCOC) is a private, non-profit corporation (401 C 4) formed in 1973 to manage the Pasadena Convention & Visitors Bureau, Pasadena Convention Center, Pasadena Civic Auditorium and the Pasadena Ice Skating Center and such other City facilities as may be assigned by the City Council.
The PCOC has responsibility to ensure that Pasadena’s facilities are effectively and efficiently managed while improving the local economy, adding value for our customers, residents, workers and businesses within the City of Pasadena. The Pasadena Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) is the official destination marketing organization for the City of Pasadena. The CVB stimulates the local economy though sales and marketing efforts by increasing visits from tourist, business travelers and conventions who generate overnight lodging, restaurant and shopping revenues.
Required Background An understanding of the operations of a multifaceted City-owned complex is prerequisite.
Time Requirements Approximately three hours monthly for regular meetings, plus extensive, though variable, time on committee and special project assignments.
