Four Arrested in Attempted Burglary, One For Attempted Murder

January 7th, 2009 by admin.pd

PASADENA, CA - The Pasadena Police Department received a call at approximately 10:17 a.m. from a resident stating that there were two suspects that had entered her home in the 1300 block of Wierfield Rd.  The resident locked herself in her room, hid in the closet and stayed on the line with police dispatchers while officers responded
The Pasadena Police helicopter was the first unit on scene and from overhead witnessed the suspects as they ran from the home.   The flight crew directed responding units as two suspects fled on foot and two by car.  One of the suspects in the car, at one point during the attempt to flee got out of the car and also attempted to get away on foot.  The helicopter directed officers to the location and responding units were able to almost immediately find and apprehend all  three suspects.  The fourth suspect, who was driving the car,  drove in the direction of an officer who was attempting to stop him.  The officer felt threatened at which time he fired several shots at the suspect’s vehicle. The suspect continued for a short distance when he was eventually stopped by another officer who had blocked the road with a police car.  That suspect was arrested for attempted homicide.

A total of four people were arrested.  Three are from Pasadena and one from Victorville.  One of the suspects is a juvenile.  The names are not available to be released at this time as search warrants are currently being served and the investigation is ongoing with the potential of solving multiple burglaries.
“This was a rapid and effective response, due in part to the Pasadena Police Department’s efforts to address a burglary trend in that area,” says Chief of Police Bernard Melekian.  “It is an example of excellent police work using 9-1-1 and Air Operations to effectively guide police units on the ground. Everything worked as it should to bring this incident to closure without anyone getting injured.”
