Pasadena Police Department Speed Enforcement Program

PASADENA - The Pasadena Police Department will conduct a Speed Enforcement Program throughout the City of Pasadena  on Monday, September 8, 2008.  The hours of operation are from 7:00 am – 3:00 pm.

2The Pasadena Police Department is committed to reducing the number of traffic collisions resulting from aggressive driving, specifically speeding.  “Our goal is to reduce serious injuries and fatal collisions which are a direct result of speeding and reckless driving,” says Acting Chief of Police Christopher Vicino.  “To that end, we are using this operation as a tool with the hope of changing driving habits for those who do not realize the consequences of this kind of dangerous behavior behind the wheel.“

Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Additional Arrests in the Murder of Jennifer Avina

PASADENA, CA –  On August  28, 2008  Pasadena Police Detectives arrested Roberto Barajas, of Pomona  for his possible involvement in the murder of Jennifer Avina-Ortega that took place earlier in the month.  On  September 2, charges  of first degree murder were filed on Mr. Barajas.  Maria Herrera, 20 of Pasadena was with Barajas when he was arrested and was arrested for unrelated charges.

In an extensive investigation additional witnesses were contacted which lead to the additional arrests of Debby Garcia, 20 & Roxanna Monge 18, of Pasadena and Lisette Reyes, 19 and Jacqueline Perez, 21 of  Pomona for their possible involvement in the  crime.

All of these subjects have been identified as either active or associate members of a Pasadena gang.

Pasadena Homicide Detectives continue pursuing all available information and ask for the public’s help with any additional information they may have concerning this brutal slaying. Detectives can be reached at 626.744.4522.

Crime Alert - Residential Burglaries at Open Houses

CRIME ALERT ISSUED
PASADENA, CA – The Pasadena Police Department has issued the following crime alert in relation to recent burglaries that have taken place in the City of Pasadena. The alert has been issued to residents of the impacted neighborhoods and local realtors via the Pasadena-Foothill Association of Realtors.

CRIME ALERT
Residential Burglaries at Open Houses

There has been a series of residential burglaries at the following locations and dates involving “open houses” with the realtor present. The loss has been high-end jewelry and cash.

1) 7/27/2008, Sunday, 2:00-4:00 PM, Case # 08040127 – 1100 Block of South Oak Knoll Avenue/ Loss is Jewelry.

2) 7/27/2008, Sunday, Noon – 2:00 PM, Case # 08040212 – 1100 Block of Avoca Avenue/ Loss is Jewelry.

3) 7/27/2008, Sunday, 2:00 – 4:00 PM, Case # 08043614 – 500 Block of La Loma Rd. / Loss is Jewelry.

** 4) 7/27/2008, Sunday, (Unreported) 500 Block of Garden Lane / Loss is Jewelry.
At Noon on Monday, 8/18/2008, the suspects involved in the above cases may have been involved in another Burglary in the 1100 Block of South Oak Knoll Avenue. In this case, the suspects contacted the elderly victim claiming they were looking for work. They convinced the victim that her front door was damaged and offered to fix it. One of the suspects entered the residence to look for tools and ended up stealing cash.

The suspects were described as follows:

Suspect No. 1 - Female Caucasian, 40 years old, 5 feet, 4 inches tall, 140 pounds, with brown shoulder length hair.

Suspect No. 2. - Female Caucasian 20 years old, 5 feet, 3 inches tall, 120 pounds, thin Build

** In the unreported case from Garden Lane, the older suspect was described as being a woman, about 4’-11” to 5’ in height. She was also described as having a hip problem or limp when she walked. Also in this case, the suspects were seen getting into what the witness believed was a black 4door Toyota Camry.
