Grant Programs

THE CITY OF PASADENA
2009/2010 ANNUAL GRANTS PROGRAM

The Pasadena Arts & Culture Commission and the Cultural Affairs Division of the City of Pasadena are pleased to announce the Annual Grants Program and the Festival and Parade Program Guidelines and application for 2009/2010. Applications must be received no later than 5:00 p.m. on Monday, June 8, 2009 (this is not a postmark deadline).

New this year are some important changes regarding the program structure. In order to make smaller budget organizations more competitive, we have split the former Arts & Culture I category into two separate categories. There are no changes to large budget organizations. Also, there are now limits to the number of grants any one organization or individual can receive in one calendar year and limits to individual artists’ grants as once every five years. Our goal is to strengthen the cultural life of Pasadena so that you and your organization can focus on the important work of producing, designing, communicating, educating and celebrating.

Please see the details below and as always, if you have any questions, you may contact Cultural Affairs: 626.744.7062.

Introducing Changes to the 2009/2010 Grants Program

Arts and Culture Grant Category

Restructuring of the former Arts and Culture I grant category now includes a small budget organization and mid-size budget organization grant category.

The restructured Arts and Culture grant categories are as follows:

Arts and Culture I – organizations with budgets less than $200,000

Arts and Culture II – organizations with budgets of $200,000 up to and including $500,000

Arts and Culture III – organizations with budgets over $500,000

Individual Artist Grant Category

An Individual Artist may not receive more than one award in a five-year period. For example, if an artist has not received an Individual Artist grant award since Fiscal Year 2004/2005 they would be eligible to apply for the 2009/2010 grant cycle.

Limit of One Grant per Grant Cycle

Only one grant will be awarded from either the Annual Grants Program or the Festival and Parade Grant Program during the same grant cycle. Although multiple applications would be accepted, only the highest-scoring application would be eligible for funding.

Grant Workshops

All first time applicants, or those who have not applied since the 2000/2001cycle, MUST attend a city-sponsored Primary grant-writing workshop to be eligible to apply. it is highly recommended that ALL applicants plan to attend at least one of the grant-writing workshops offered. Each workshop will be conducted by Susan Braig, a professional grant-writing consultant.
