Pasadena Civic Center

Project Overview

Up to five artworks will be commissioned for the renovation of The Pasadena Center, comprised of the historic Civic Auditorium, two convention and meeting buildings on each side of the Auditorium and a sequence of large open spaces. Pasadena Center is located in downtown Pasadena and serves as the southern terminus of the Civic Center axis, a classic Beaux Arts plan implemented in the 1920s. In addition to the Auditorium, other historically significant buildings include City Hall and City Library. All three buildings are listed on the National Register of Historic Places and are a major and treasured part of Pasadena’s heritage.

New construction will enlarge the two Convention Center buildings that flank the Auditorium and replace their current façade with an arcade characterized by an inviting and open presence. The plaza in front of the Auditorium will be expanded and the public spaces between and surrounding the buildings of the Pasadena Center will also be redesigned to encourage greater usage by the general public and Center visitors.
